Volunteering

Who Are Our Volunteers?

Our volunteers come from every age range and walk of life. Currently, over 600 individuals make a regular commitment to us and give on average 3 hours of their precious time weekly.

You don’t need experience, just a warm, friendly personality. A few hours of your time is all you need to commit and there’s whole range of activities to get involved in.

In return, we can offer the opportunity to learn new skills and meet new people, the potential to enhance and enrich your life experience and
on-going support and advice from a Volunteer Co-Ordinator.

Your time, skills and experience are precious gifts.

As a Volunteer, why not share them with us and make a difference!

Saint John of God Services supports children and adults with intellectual disabilities and mental health issues. With services based in Dublin, Kerry, Kildare, Louth, Meath, Monaghan and Wicklow, we have lots of volunteering opportunities.

Many of the people we support want to get involved in their community and follow their leisure, educational or social interests. Your time, skills and experience could help them make that step. Read Karen’s story about how she makes a difference.

We’d love to hear from you.  Contact our Volunteer Co-Ordinators and get involved!

Hi. My name is Karen. I am currently studying for a degree in Environmental Science and have been a volunteer in Saint John of God Day Services in Drogheda for the past two years, I usually volunteer 1 day a week and love to get involved in all activities with the Service Users which include feeding and going for walks. I especially love using the Sensory Room with its special lighting, music and objects.

Volunteering means taking time out and doing something in the hope that it will make a difference to someone’s life, and I see this difference and appreciation in the faces of the people I am helping all of the time. Through volunteering I have made new friends and learned new skills. I even represented the Day Service at Saint John of God North East Services Strictly Come Dancing Fundraiser which was great fun.

Through volunteering I have grown in confidence, learnt new skills as well as so much about equality and advocacy. Volunteering does not feel like work. It is a great social activity and if it is something you have considered and are able to give even just a few hours of your precious time a week, I would highly recommend getting involved. My experience with Saint John of God North East Services has been very rewarding.
